In the Apple TV+ movie Finch, Tom Hanks’ character lives in a post-apocalyptic world prone to savage winds. We were tasked to create a costume that could withstand shooting these violent storm scenes. In the end, our custom design not only kept dirt from Tom’s face, the added filtered air pump made it easy for him to breathe.
Like all our costumes, comfort is a very important characteristic we strive to achieve. The materials our costume fabrication team uses must be safe for the talent to wear, and our construction methods must be pleasant for them to perform in.
In an article written by Charles Pulliam-Moore for Gizmodo, he describes in his interview with Miguel Sapochnik, how the director credited Hanks’ suit for the “smoothness of the production.”
“He would come onto set in the suit, do his scenes, then sit in a chair, close his visor, turn on the AC and go to sleep,” Sapochnik recalled. “Then when we were ready, he’d open the visor and go. That might not sound unique, but it has this cumulative effect. Everybody else was ‘on’ as a result.”
