VEHICLES & SHIPS | SET DECORATION

For The Mandalorian and Grogu, the fabrication teams at SCPS Unlimited designed and built two practical Star Wars vehicles for production designers Andrew Jones and Doug Chiang. Engineered for live-action filming, both vehicles were fabricated as fully functional set pieces capable of integrating with motion rigs while supporting physical actor interaction on set.

Created as a practical hero vehicle for The Mandalorian and Grogu, the speeder combined traditional fabrication methods with modern manufacturing technologies to achieve both structural durability and cinematic realism.

Created as a practical hero vehicle for The Mandalorian and Grogu, the speeder combined traditional fabrication methods with modern manufacturing technologies to achieve both structural durability and cinematic realism.
The internal frame was fabricated from steel to withstand motion rig operation and stunt interaction, while CNC-machined plywood, PVC body panels, and large-scale 3D printed components were used to create the vehicle’s outer form and detailing. Finished in a metallic blue automotive paint system with plush suede upholstery, the vehicle was designed to evoke the look of a restored vintage hot rod within the Star Wars universe. The hood assembly was additionally reinforced to support actors in full armor running across the vehicle during filming

AT-RT Walker

Alongside the speeder fabrication, SCPS Unlimited also produced a practical AT-RT Walker for live-action production use. While the vehicle platform had previously appeared as a CG asset in Revenge of the Sith, this marked the first time the AT-RT Walker had been physically fabricated for a live-action Star Wars production.

Alongside the speeder fabrication, SCPS Unlimited also produced a practical [walker build] for live-action production use. While the vehicle platform had previously appeared as a CG asset in Revenge of the Sith, this marked the first time the [walker build] had been physically fabricated for a live-action Star Wars production.

Built within an approximately two-month production schedule, the walker utilized metal fabrication, welded steel construction, CNC fabrication, and large-format 3D printed detailing to achieve the recognizable Star Wars silhouette while remaining durable enough for transportation and on-set handling. The walker’s legs were fully articulated, allowing motion rigs to achieve the practical in-camera effect of the vehicle standing and lowering to a parked position. Both vehicles were engineered to be forklift accessible and transportable via standard stakebed truck for production logistics.
