For Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, the costume fabrication team created the exo-suit worn on screen by Michael Keaton for his portrayal of the villain Vulture, beginning with an enhanced soldier exo-suit recovered from a prior battle in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and reverse engineering it into a fully realized, character-specific flight suit. Built over a specialized undergarment with integrated attachment points, the costume allowed for quick and efficient changes during production while supporting multiple versions, including hero and stunt builds.
The final design featured articulated, posable talons and a high-tech helmet with glowing green eyes and a removable visor, carefully engineered so Keaton could see clearly from behind the illuminated elements and perform comfortably. Visually, the suit reflects the film’s narrative of alien technology and abandoned weapons being secretly salvaged and repurposed by a criminal underground, resulting in a menacing fusion of military hardware and alien tech. A dedicated stunt version was also fabricated using soft, flexible materials designed to look like solid metal while allowing safe movement, falls, and action choreography.
The project was developed in close collaboration with director Jon Watts and costume designer Louise Frogley, ensuring the suit balanced visual impact, storytelling, and the physical demands of performance.
